2014 SAPWT Stop 1 Bulletin
On behalf of The South African Wakeboard Association, we have great pleasure in announcing the South African Pro Wakeboard/Wakeskate Tour Stop 1 in Collaboration with Malibu Boats to be hosted by Shaun Meredith at the Emerald Resort and Casino Vanderbijlpark., Gauteng.
We wish to thank Shaun for his effort and time he has put into this event and trust it will be well supported as it was last season. The previous years event was professionally run and well organised, thank you Shaun.
This event is the first of three on the South African Wakeboard Associations Pro Tour; it will welcome all riders with the highlight being the Open Men division. Here you will see South Africa’s top Pro riders battling it out in an effort to be crowned the 2014 South African Wakeboard/Wakeskate Pro Tour series winner.
The site is fabulous and as some of you will know it has a welcoming atmosphere. Shaun has organised catering supplied by Emerald Casino so those of you who have friends and families who want to attend this National Wakeboard Event, the setting is ideal with great spectator viewing of the wakeboard course, a fun day on the riverbanks and in a perfect climate and time of year for Vanderbijlpark.
Rules from the 2014 age categories will be applicable please refer to the www.wakesa.com to review rules and other important information, rules will be found under the information section.
All three Tour stops will be run under the rules that will be applied at the 2014 E&A Championships, to be held in Europe in August 2014. www.iwwfwakeboard.com.
We are pleased to announce that we intend bidding for the 2015 Worlds. We have had preliminary discussions with the World Committee who have expressed their support and look forward to our official application.
Sponsors are currently being sought to align themselves with Wake SA to participate in this prestigious event.
We are hereby calling on all Members and their Families to participate in this process, any suggestions pertaining to sponsors or fund raising will be greatly appreciated. Please talk to any of the committee members or myself regarding any ideas or proposals you may have, please spread the word.
If we are successful, the event will take place in February 2015 which coincides with one of the European school holidays.
Selection for the SA Team for this event will largely be selected from the 2014 Tour performance. Athletes are to ensure they participate in a least two of the 2014 National Tour Stops to be eligible for selection. The final selection will however rest on the selection committee which will be guided by Jono Joseph, Shaun Faccio and Tich Mitchell.
The Membership fee will be as follows:
SAWBA Membership -- R300.00 for the season.
SAWBA Membership -- R150.00 per contest
Novice Membership -- R100.00 per contest
Wakeboard – R250.00 per rider.
Wake Skate – R250.00 per rider.
Novice(first time entry) -- R150.00 per rider.
R 50.00 will be added to the entry fee for a lunch voucher at Emerald for Saturday and Sunday.
The entry fee can be paid by bank transfer, please produce proof of payment at registration.

Registration will close on Friday at 18:00pm
Registration can be done via e-mail or at the site on Friday afternoon from 15:00 – 18:00.
There will be no registration on Saturday. Please note, R200.00 membership fee will be required from all athletes who wish to compete on the South African Pro Wakeboard Tour. All riders must be registered and must be a paid up member of the SAWBA. If a novice rider wants to ride in only one event an amount of R100.00 membership fee will be required.
The slider is currently under repair, expecting it to be ready for the contest but this cannot be confirmed at this stage.
Weather permitting, official practice will be on Friday from 15:00-18:00.
A Paramedic will be on standby at the site.
The South African Wakeboard Association and the Committee will not be held liable for any damage or loss of personal property. Nor will the association and its committee be held liable or incur cost related to an athlete’s injuries sustained during an official or unofficial event organised by the association or its committee. Athletes are to ensure they are self-insured and that such insurance is up to date and valid for the sport they conduct.
